Bruce Gollubier:
Jerry Lee was excellent in Phoenix. He was in a great mood, lots of smiling and kidding around. His show was at least an hour long, his portion. He sounded
better than I have heard him in quite a while. He mentioned his new album twice saying that it should be out in a few days, then he laughed and said, that's what they tell
him. He played Before The Night Is Over, which he said was from the album. In random order he played: Crazy Arms, Lewis Boogie, Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On, Great Balls Of
Fire, You Belong To Me, She Even Woke Me Up To Say Goodbye, Johnny B. Goode, and many more. I would say that the place was about 2/3 full. He was excellent.
Steve Montgomery:
I apologize for the lack of
specific details, I wasn't writing the set list down, and didn't notice what time Jerry stopped or started. It was a good night of music with an Elvis act opening, the Bill
Haley's original Comets played a good set, and I think at around 9:45 to 10:00 PM, Jerry took the stage. Jerry looked in excellent shape, even better then when I last saw him in
August. Dark black/gray suite with very glossy black boots, looking professional as usual.
This show was over 1
hour, I thought it was about 1 hour and 20 min. My camera, pen, and all other items were left in my car in error, and the venue doesn't allow you to re-enter once you have
went in. That was a bummer.
Jerry was in very good form
there were some forgotten/mixed lyrics on Hadacol Boogie, but it was still good. Crazy Arms was a treat, and after much yelling, a strong version of Lewis Boogie was
delivered. Jerry was in a very good mood, and I felt the audience was responsive and enthusiastic. More then once Jerry advised he was having a new album coming out. It
was great to see the band and get a chance to talk with the guys, and to Peter (Hayman) and Pam.
