Mack Vickery, writer of songs like Meat Man and Rockin' My Life
Away, died Tuesday at the age of 66. Jerry recorded many of his songs (both ballads and rock songs), that fit him like a glove. They were close friends. See Tennesean.com for a news article about Vickery's demise. See www.rockabillyhall.com/MackVickery1.html for a biography which emphasises Vickery's association with Jerry.

Op het Internationale Documentaire Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) gaat de documentaire
Don't fuck with the Lewises
zaterdag 27 november in City, Amsterdam (20:45). Zie de website van het IDFA voor meer informatie.

At the Internation Documentary Festival Amsterdam (IDFA), the documentary
Don't fuck with the Lewises, produced by Ronny Kristoffersen, will have its world premiere. This is the description as provided by the IDFA:
"A Norwegian film
crew travelling across the southern states of America comes across rock legend Jerry Lee Lewis' native home in Ferriday, Louisiana. Although initially they are especially
attracted to the nearby drive-thru liquor store and bar, they decide to concentrate on
the striking manager of both the liquor store and Lewis' childhood home. Jerry Lee's sister Frankie Jean invites the gentlemen over to her house, where she and her husband air some dirty laundry about her "musical hero" of a brother. Suddenly they are interrupted as a black townsman tries to rob the liquor store. All weapons in the Lewis house are eagerly brought into play. It turns out that Ferriday is a place where racial hatred, fear and violence are everyday phenomena."
The documentary will be shown this Saturday, November 27, in the cinema 'City' in Amsterdam. See the IDFA website for more details. It may also be broadcast on Dutch television on December 6.

The MGM movie "High School Confidential" (1958), directed by Jack Arnold, will be released on DVD on June 15.
The movie stars Russ Tamblyn as a young narcotics agent, who works undercover at a high school in California. According to theInternet Movie Database, High School
Confidential is "a typical morality play
of the era, filled with a naive view of drugs, nihilistic beat poetry, and some incredible '50s slang". Jerry's main contribution is during the title song in de first minutes of the movie, lip-synching the song in the bed of a pickup truck. The movie version of the song is different from the Sun single.

Review inNashville City Paper of the new '2-for-1' CD featuring 'Southern Roots' and 'Boogie Woogie Country Man':
|
|
By Ron Wynn, Nashville City Paper May 21, 2004
"Jerry Lee Lewis destroyed forever any notions during the mid-`70s that he'd lost anything as either a pianist or singer. Southern Roots/Boogie Woogie Country Man (Raven)
combines these two
great albums onto one disc. The first presents the Killer flailing away on the keyboard and delivering R&B gems like "Hold On I'm Coming" and "Blueberry Hill" in top form, while he turns to country and rockabilly on the second album, doing fantastic drinking songs ("Red Hot Memories (Ice Cold Beer"),) heartache and trouble tunes ("(Remember Me) I'm The One Who Loves You"), even some gospel ("Jesus Is On The Mainline").
This is magnificent music, and hasn't been available in a reasonably packaged set for many years."

In April, Jerry gave a private show in Geneva, Switzerland. According to the website www.worldtempus.com, Jerry
really heated up the crowd and made the Chinese dance with the Russians and Americans. And the Armenians even whirled across the dance floor with the Turks! This is the original
French text:
"La plus fastueuse a été évidemment celle du
groupe Franck Muller: 1200 invités à un dîner assis, sous une immense tente installée au sein du Watchland de Genthod avec, comme vedette, le rocker
Jerry Lee Lewis qui, malgré son âge, a chauffé la salle au point que les Chinois dansaient le rock avec les Russes ou les Américains. J’y ai même vu des Arméniens virevolter avec des Turcs, preuve que Genève et l’horlogerie sont de formidables facteurs de paix."

New link added to report in the Commercial Appeal of Jerry's show at the Beale Street Music Festival on May 1. It was a rainy show:
"It eased up a while, but then about 8 p.m.
rain with gusty winds slammed into Tom Lee Park again. That delayed Jerry Lee
Lewis's set about an hour, but back in his trailer, the Killer was philosophical: "You don't question God."
Another report can be found on theironline journal of this festival:
"Jerry Lee came through with all the moves, banging the keyboard, planting his ass on it at an
appropriate time and pointing to heaven in
a signature move. He was unflappable, the crowd was committed and although it was only a handful of tunes, they were given and taken with all the boogie woogie love in the known universe."

Article about Jerry in the latest issue of Rolling Stone:
"He was an evangelist for the devil's music. He gave himself over to
libidinous energy as no white musician had ever done. [...] Great Balls of Fire" and "Whole Lot of Shakin' Going On" are the iconic singles. But if you really want to understand Jerry Lee Lewis, find some videotape performance of him doing "Great Balls of Fire." It's pure, narcotic rock & roll excitement -- and those moments have been few and far between."

The release date is probably end of the summer.

|
|
The CD will be released by
DreamWorks (www.dreamworksrecords.com), a Universal label.

|
|
Paul McCartney, Van Morrison and Robert Plant, who were mentioned as contributors previously, are
not on the record.
|
|
Jimmy Rip: "
This record really is for the fans. It's got rock n roll the way people remember him rockin'. There's things on the record that are just as emotional as anything he's done. And
also, I tried to bring him only songs that spoke to his life. Each song was like a little chapter on Jerry's life. So I really did make this one for the fans & I think I know what they
want. I want this record to make people know that he's still the genius that his reputation says he is. He's still all there & then some, & he's the last man standing."

Part of the tour programme is a letter from Jerry addressed to all his fans:
Apart from my family, the most
important
people in my life are you, my fans and friends. Too many young performers seem to forget that nowadays and that is why their careers don't last too long. Throughout my life I've been privileged to have the most loyal and loving fans in the whole of music. This tour with Blondell means a lot to me personally because as the Chinese say ...............This is the year of "The Killer".
My new album "Old Glory" is due out this year and has been superbly produced by my friend Jimmy Rip. I hear Jimmy is also going to produce Blondell's next
album also. Good one Son, you've got the best. He annoys me that boy - talented, good looking and intelligent, reminds me of myself.
The quality and calibre of the
people who contributed to "Old Glory"
have been emotional for me and I would like to thank them from the bottom of my heart. With this year marking the 50th Anniversary of "Rock n'Roll", I believe there could be some "New Glories" to match the "Old Glory".
Many thanks to my gorgeous daughter Phoebe and my friends JW Whitten, Steve Green, and Jim from RNJ for making this "Generations Tour" possible.
Lastly, for the past, the present and the future - thanks to all of you for tonight.
Be careful there's a "Killer" in town!
God Bless You All, Jerry Lee Lewis

Jerry and his band, including the Memphis
Horns and background singers, arrived in Scotland today, after an intermediate landing in Amsterdam. According to TEX (The Travelin' Man) and Graham Knight, he looked fit and
well. By request of many fans Kenneth Lovelace, Jerry's bandleader, decided to take his fiddle with him. A report by Graham Knight from Gleneagles Hotel:
"Jerry was in good shape when he arrived at Edinburgh Airport. He looked
well and his handshake is as strong as ever. I gave him some Cuban cigars and we laughed at some old photographs of how we both looked 42 years ago! Jerry was whisked off in promoter Jim o'Neil's Rolls Royce and when he arrived at Gleneagles they had two of those real fire signs like you see at some restaurants lit in his honour. A Scottish piper in full highland dress including the kilt played a welcome tune - although it was not Great Balls of Fire - Jerry appreciated it. The band travelled in a luxury coach that is normally used by Rangers Football Club.
"The hotel ballroom is already set up for the show on Friday and the
sound is spectacularly good. The same sound crew will be at all dates. The Newcastle show will be televised so put you cat clothes on as Carl Perkins used to sing."
Friday will be the kickoff of Jerry's tour in the UK and the Netherlands. See the concerts section for all show details.

The Jerry Lee Lewis Start Page
has seen the light of day! When you are searching the Web for information about rock 'n' roll legend Jerry Lee Lewis, then you are at the right place. On this site, you'll find the latest news about 'the Killer', his concert schedule and information about the Jerry Lee Lewis International Fanclub. But most of all, this site is meant to be a starting point, say 'operating base', from which you can find a wealth of online information about Jerry Lee Lewis: fan sites, biographies, lyrics, search engines, etc.
The Jerry Lee Lewis Start Page will gradually
expand. But I need your help for this, so let me know what you think of this project. In case you have any comments, suggestions or questions, please sign theguest book ormail me personally.
Enjoy!
